Lumpkin County has a rich history and natural beauty that draws visitors year round.  Recently named the Dahlonega Plateau AVA, the prolific wine industry now benefits from being the newest viticultural area in the U. S. and the first contained entirely in the state of Georgia.  The stunning vineyards and wineries have given rise to an equally prosperous wedding industry.  In addition to hiking, biking, tubing, and tasting,  there are historic mines for touring and panning in the site of the first U. S. gold rush.
