Amicalola EMC donates $10,000 to Development Authority of Lumpkin County
DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Development Authority of Lumpkin County joined the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce, Community Helping Place, and Lumpkin County Government Emergency Services to receive a donation from Amicalola Electrical Membership Corporation (EMC) on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
The $10,000 donation is part of the $413,000 Amicalola EMC provided to high school scholarships, teacher grants, economic development groups, fire departments, food panties, and other community organizations throughout its service area.
In a local electric cooperative, like Amicalola EMC, every member owns the business. Once all operating expenses have been covered, the extra, unused funds paid in by the members of Amicalola EMC may be returned to the members as a capital credit refund.
The donations recently distributed are a part of unclaimed capital credit refunds. State of Georgia law allows Amicalola EMC to distribute for three purposes: education, economic development, and 501(c) 3 charities.
Amicalola EMC is a strong supporter of Lumpkin County through providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity, as well as supporting economic development initiatives and quality of life in Lumpkin County.
